You can take some precautions to avoid heat exhaustion and heat-related illnesses.

When the temperature rises, wear light and loose-fitting clothes. Thick or tight clothing prevents your body from cooling properly.

Protect yourself from the sun. Avoid going out at midday. Sunburn affects your body’s ability to cool down. Use a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and don’t forget to apply sunscreen that protects against harmful UV rays.

Drink plenty of fluids. Staying hydrated helps your body sweat and regulate its temperature.

Try to exercise or do physical work during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or evening. Reduce the time you spend working or exercising in hot weather.

Be cautious if you’re on medication. If you take medications or have a health condition that increases your risk of heat-related problems—such as a history of heat exhaustion—avoid exposure to heat and act quickly if you notice symptoms of overheating.

Avoid salty, spicy, sour, hot, or strongly flavored foods. Also avoid hot drinks, as they can disturb the body's energy balance (Pitta dosha).

Don’t skip meals, but also don’t overeat. Eat light meals and stay hydrated.

Drink coconut water. It’s excellent for hydration and helps reduce acidity, which can relieve heartburn and acid reflux.

When exercising—especially during the Pitta season—don’t overexert yourself, especially by running in the hot afternoon sun. Avoid anything that increases body heat, such as saunas, steam rooms, hot showers, and spicy foods. Stay out of the hot midday sun.

Take walks in the early morning or in the evening under the moonlight after dinner. Practice deep breathing and meditation. Enjoy cooling recipes that help keep you hydrated in the heat.
